Feng Shui - The Secret Key to Unlocking Life's Hidden Treasures and Riches

Each Year Holds a Gua

In the ever-turning cycle of Heaven and Earth, the qi of each year is not the same. Just as the stars shift and the seasons change, every year carries its own pattern and rhythm. In Chinese metaphysics, this yearly pattern is revealed through a hexagram (Gua) from the I Ching, also known as the Book of Changes.

The Gua acts as a cosmic compass — showing the prevailing energy of the year, its opportunities, its challenges, and the best way to move in harmony with the times.

The Origin of the Gua
The Gua comes from the I Ching (易经), one of the oldest classics of Chinese wisdom, dating back over 3,000 years. The I Ching is built upon 64 hexagrams, each made up of six lines (either solid or broken). These lines represent Yin and Yang, the two fundamental forces of the universe.

Together, the 64 hexagrams form a complete cycle of all possible transformations — the rise and fall, the opening and closing, the coming together and the breaking apart of energies.

When applied to the cycle of years, each year is aligned with one of these hexagrams. This yearly Gua becomes a reflection of Heaven and Earth’s qi for that time.

What Does the Yearly Gua Do?

Reveals the Theme of the Year
Each hexagram has its own meaning. Some bring messages of growth, prosperity, and harmony. Others remind us to act with caution, patience, or unity.

Guides Decisions and Timing
The yearly Gua serves as a map: it shows when to move forward, when to hold back, when to collaborate, and when to stand firm.

Warns of Pitfalls
It also highlights the year’s hidden dangers — such as misplaced trust, reckless action, or wasted energy — so we can avoid unnecessary hardship.

Encourages Alignment with Qi
By following the Gua, we live in tune with the natural flow of the year, moving with the current rather than against it.

Why Understanding the Gua Matters
The Gua does not dictate an unchangeable fate. Instead, it acts like a qi forecast, much like reading the weather before planning a journey.

With this foresight, we can:

  • Plan ahead with wisdom
  • Recognize opportunities when they appear
  • Avoid difficulties by knowing when to wait
  • Stay balanced and prepared, no matter the year’s storms

The Gua in Daily Life

In Feng Shui and Chinese astrology, the yearly Gua provides a background layer of qi that influences everyone. It works like the “tone” of the year, shaping how events unfold and how we respond.

By studying the yearly Gua, we gain clarity — not only for practical planning in work, family, or health, but also for our inner life. It reminds us that all things follow the greater rhythm of Heaven and Earth, and when we align with this rhythm, life flows more smoothly.

In short, each year holds a Gua.
It is the key to understanding the qi of time, to walking in harmony with change, and to living with foresight and wisdom.
