Li Xia

Li Xia 立夏 is the 7th term in the Chinese calendar system which divides the year into 24 solar terms based on the position of the Sun. Li Xia signifies the beginning of summer when the weather starts to become noticeably warmer. Li Xia begins when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 45 degree and ends when it reaches the longitude of 60 degree. Li Xia usually refer to a particular day when the sun is exactly at the celestial longitude of 45 degree, which is around 5 or 6 May. This year, the transition falls on 6 May 2023 at 02:19 Hour.  

During Li Xia, 6 May to 21 May 2023, the Yang qi 阳气 will multiply and the generation of the Fire elements will accelerate. Such mutation in energy may cause fatigue, insomnia, headache, poor digestion and blood pressure issue. Thus, the need for adaptation or adjustment your living space, diet or even routine. Displaying cut flowers in water can harmonize the energy in your living space or work area. Rearranging the furniture to allow more air flow and light is a good way to garner yang energy in a deem areas. Diffusing aroma scent such as eucalyptus, geranium, spearmint, peppermint or lemon can help circulate air flow. 

Consuming more water, barley, mung (green) bean , winter melon, black fungus and Chinese yam during this period is nourishing and helpful for the digestive system. For those with poor blood circulation or weak heart, eating red dates, carrot, water melon and tomato can improve condition. For those with the reverse condition, heaty heart, the taste of bitterness can reduce excessive "fire" in the heart. And, the most important food to consume is tea egg 茶叶蛋. It is said eating eggs during the period is able to prevent misfortune or injury.
