Feng Shui - The Secret Key to Unlocking Life's Hidden Treasures and Riches

Tai Sui - Year of Goat

2027 is the Ding Wei (丁未) Year of the Goat. In Chinese metaphysics, Tai Sui (太岁) represents the governing energy of the year. As the annual energy changes, the position of Tai Sui changes accordingly, and its relationship with the twelve zodiac signs also changes.

Understanding Tai Sui is not simply about whether a year is “good” or “bad.” It helps us recognize where the energy of the year may bring stronger movement, pressure or change, and where greater care may be needed.

For the Ding Wei year, the presiding Tai Sui is General Miao Bing (缪丙大将军), one of the sixty Tai Sui Generals corresponding to the sixty-year cycle. Each Tai Sui presides over a particular year, and General Miao Bing governs the Ding Wei year of 2027.

Where is Tai Sui in 2027?

In 2027, Tai Sui is located in the Southwest, specifically in the Wei (未) direction.

In Feng Shui, the Tai Sui sector should generally be kept stable and should not be unnecessarily disturbed. This does not mean that the Southwest becomes an unusable or negative part of the home. Normal daily activities can continue as usual.

The main concern is physical disturbance to the sector. Major renovation, hacking, drilling, demolition or ground-breaking works should preferably be avoided in the Tai Sui direction.

This is the origin of the traditional expression 太岁头上动土 — “moving earth on Tai Sui’s head.” It describes the practice of disturbing the sector occupied by Tai Sui.

Directly opposite Tai Sui is Sui Po (岁破). Since Tai Sui occupies Wei (未) in the Southwest in 2027, Sui Po falls in Chou (丑) in the Northeast. Major renovation and ground-breaking works in this direction should likewise be approached with care.

Who Offends Tai Sui in 2027?

When a person's zodiac forms a particular relationship with the Tai Sui of the year, it is commonly known as Fan Tai Sui (犯太岁).

In 2027, the zodiac signs most directly affected are the Goat, Ox, Dog and Rat. However, they do not experience Tai Sui in the same way.

Those born in the Year of the Goat experience Zhi Tai Sui (值太岁), as their zodiac is the same as the Tai Sui of the year. This is also known as Ben Ming Nian (本命年). The year may bring stronger changes in personal circumstances, responsibilities or direction. It is generally better to take a steady approach and avoid creating unnecessary instability.

For those born in the Year of the Ox, the Ox is in directly clashes with Wei (未), forming Chong Tai Sui (冲太岁). A clash is associated with movement and change, so changes involving career, residence, relationships or personal circumstances may become more noticeable. The Ox also forms part of the Chou-Xu-Wei (丑戌未) punishment relationship, adding another layer of pressure to the year. Important decisions should therefore be made with greater thought rather than impulse.

Those born in the Year of the Dog encounter Xing Tai Sui (刑太岁) and Po Tai Sui (破太岁). Greater attention may be needed in relationships, communication, agreements and dealings with others. Misunderstandings or unresolved matters should be handled early before they develop into larger problems.

For the Rat, Rat forms a clash known as Hai Tai Sui (害太岁). This influence tends to be less direct than a clash and may appear through misunderstandings, difficult cooperation, unexpected complications or problems that are not immediately obvious. Clear communication and greater care in agreements can be particularly important.

Bad Year for Clash Formations?

Clashing with Tai Sui does not automatically mean that the entire year will be difficult.

The zodiac sign is only one part of a person's Chinese astrology chart. The actual influence of Tai Sui depends on how the annual Ding Wei energy interacts with the complete BaZi chart, together with the person's Luck Cycle and other annual influences.

This is why two people born under the same zodiac sign can experience the same year very differently.

Tai Sui is better understood as an indication of where change, movement or pressure may be stronger. When we understand the nature of that interaction, we can be more mindful about when to move forward, when to make adjustments and when not to force matters unnecessarily.

Understanding Tai Sui allows us to move through the year with greater awareness, knowing when to move forward, when to adjust, and when it is wiser not to disturb what is already settled.
